The village of Cembra hosts a peculiar and interesting Judgement Stone called “Sas del Freiter”. A similar stone is found in Lindorf, a village in Southern Germany, and more specifically in a place called Freyd. Death sentences used to be executed there. Etymologically, the ancient word “freyd” is not to be confused with “frei” (free); it rather relates to words such as “frid” “frayt” which mean merciless, brutal or fearsome. A further similarity is to be found in the English language; frighten.
